I am not responsible about anything it includes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: I installed the modem for J5 and the USB driver for QN-3USB. Everything was fine, no conflict, no yellow mark under device manager. But it doesn’t work when I made a dialup. Error message shown: "Modem not found" * Make sure that the J5 modem is using the COM port, which is assigned to Sony USB cable. (You could find how to chase the COM port for USB cable in the user manual, a PDF file, provided in the CD-ROM.) * Make sure that in your dialup program the Sony CMD J5-J16 modem is chosen. * If you have more than 2 USB ports make sure that the current USB port you are using now is that one you have installed USB cable driver for. * Make sure that the serial port is not disabled (you could check that in BIOS or in laptop device manager) or there’s no conflict (yellow mark on this COM port, you could check it under Settings/Control Panel/System/) * Restart the PC. * Disconnect the cable from your J5 and connect the cable again. Till you hear a beep from your J5, try to make a dialup again. * You should see an indication on the phone "Outgoing data" * Uninstall the USB cable using the uninstall program which you could find in the provided CD-ROM under the folder "Sony Win98 USB data cable driver" (if your PC has OS Win98) or "Sony Win2000 USB data cable driver" (if your PC has OS Win98). Then restart the PC, install the USB cable again but strictly according to the user manual, which you could find in the provided CD-ROM as PDF file. Q: I installed the modem for J5 and the USB driver for QN-3USB. Everything was fine, no conflict, no yellow mark under device manager. But it doesn’t work when I made a dialup. Error message shown: "Modem is busy" * Make sure that no other PC application, which is using the same COM port, is running. Q: I tried to install USB cable in my PC. My PC has Win2k OS and doesn’t support serial and parallel port (a legacy free PC). In Device Manager under Ports I could find "Sony Mobile USB to Serial Port" but there’s a yellow mark on it (conflict). * You must have the "Sony Utility CD-ROM" version 1.0 pls. change to version 2.0. In this version we solved that conflict (Win2k OS in a legacy free laptop). * First uninstall the USB cable using the uninstall program which is provided in CD-ROM (version 1.0) in the folder "Sony Win2000 USB Data Cable Driver" then install the driver again from version 2.0 CD-ROM according to the user manual. Q: I tried to install the USB cable under Win98 but it is installed as an "Unknown USB Device" in the Device Manager. * You must haven’t installed the USB driver strictly according to the user manual which you could find as PDF file in the provided CD-ROM. * Try to uninstall it using the uninstall program which you could find in the provided CD-ROM under the folder "Sony Win98 USB data cable driver" (if your PC has OS Win98) or "Sony Win2000 USB data cable driver" (if your PC has OS Win98) Case 1, the uninstall message shown as "the uninstall is successful." * After the PC rebooted, you plug in the USB cable again. If the Windows shows a message like "Found New Hardware" and doesn’t show the name of "Sony Mobile USB Data Cable" and doesn’t ask you to put Sony Mobile Utility CD-ROM for searching "Ser9pl.inf" (under Win98) or "Ser2pl.inf" (under Win2k), the system is clean now. You could install the USB driver again but strictly according to the user manual, which you could find in the provided CD-ROM as PDF file. * After the PC rebooted, you plug in the USB cable again. If the Windows shows a message like "Found New Hardware" and later on shows the name of this device as "Sony Mobile USB Data Cable" and asks you to put Sony Mobile Utility CD-ROM for searching "Ser9pl.inf" (under Win98) or "Ser2pl.inf" (under Win2k), pls. go to point 5. Case 2, the uninstall shown a message as "The uninstall is failed" * Pls. go to point 5 Q: Following is the last possibility to get a clean system (exactly like that situation which you haven’t installed the USB driver before.) and try to install it from beginning of all, but strictly according to the provided user manual (as PDF file). Warning: in this step you need some deeper knowledge about MS Windows system. If you don’t feel confident pls. go to service center and ask an expert to do this. Case 1 your PC has Win98 OS Plug in the USB cable in PC. A) Go to Start Menu and choose Run. * type in " regedit " Windows will open the Register screen. You could find several sub-screens. * Select "HKEY_local_ machine" screen * Select "ENUM" * Select "USB" * If you could find under this list "VID054C&PID0437" or "VID_067B&PID_2303" delete it. * Then select USBPORT which you could find under "ENUM" folder same as "USB" (actually is the next folder after "USB") * If you could find "VID054C&PID0437" or "VID_067B&PID_2303" delete it * Close all windows of register. B) Go to My Computer and go to C:\Windows\Inf (When you couldn’t find the INF folder you should go to the menu "View\Folder options\" then choose the screen "View" then go to "Files and Folders\Hidden Files" then select "Show all files") * If you could find "Ser9pl.inf" or "Serspl.inf" delete them. * if you could find also "Ser9pl.PNF" or "Serspl.PNF" delete them C) Changed to C:\Windows\Inf\Other * If you could find "SONYusb2ser.inf" delete it. D) Take out the USB cable from your PC and restart the PC * Plug in the USB cable again. If the Windows shows a message like "Found New Hardware" and doesn’t show the name of "Sony Mobile USB Data Cable" and doesn’t ask you to put Sony Mobile Utility CD-ROM for searching "Ser9pl.inf" (under Win98), the system is clean now. Go to My Computer and go to folder C:\WINNT\Inf (When you couldn’t find the INF folder you should go to the menu "Tools\Folder Options\" then choose the screen "View" then go to "Files and Folders\Hidden Files" then select "Show hidden files and folders") * You could find lot of "oemX.inf" files. The X is a number from 0 to 100 (e.g.). * If you could find a "oem3.inf" (3 is just an example), whose modifying date is occasionally the date that you installed the USB driver and the size is occasionally 8 kB, you could open it and go to the last 3rd row in this file. If this row is written as "PNP0500.DeviceDesc = "Sony Mobile USB to Serial Port" ", you could close this file and delete it. You should be able to find another file has the same name like this one but with another extension, in our example, "oem3.pnf", you should delete it as well.
